What is a payment note?

A payment note means that the company has not paid its debts on time and that the debt has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service. The credit reporting companies record it as a note. Most credit reporting companies retrieve data on newly accrued debt on a daily basis and record it in their records.

A full list of the credit reporting companies can be found at Website of the Danish Data Inspectorate, which also provides more information on how credit reporting and payment notes work. Read more about the difference between UC and credit reporting.

What happens if the company receives a payment note?

For example, a payment note may result in the company not being able to business loans from the bank, unable to subscribe for example telephone subscriptions or forced to make prepayments.

Are there different types of payment notes?

One can divide payment notes into two types:

  • General objectives (taxes & fees to public authorities): These consist of payment requirements from the public sector, i.e. from the state, municipality, county council or authorities. A general case usually arises after a company fails to pay on time, for example, tax, VAT, employer's fee, parking fines or other public charges.
  • Individual cases (debts to private creditors): These are normally made up of payment claims from private companies. A payment note arises after a company or does not pay its bills on time for, for example, rent, accounts payable or loans.
How do I know if my company has a payment note?

That's what a credit reporting company can inform you about - because they're the ones who put payment notes. Credit reporting companies collect public data from various registers, including from the Swedish Kronofogden. This information is then submitted to various questioners, such as banks, landlords and credit companies. A full list of credit reporting companies is available on the Datainspektionen's website.

Do you want to know what payment notes Creditsafe has registered with your company? Fill out a registry extract and send it to support@creditsafe.se. It is also possible to send in the register extract by post, send it to Box 320, 401 25 Göteborg. Ordering registry extracts must be made in writing and signed.

How long does a payment note last?

Credit reporting companies typically retain data on companies for five years after the date the note was registered. When an application for an order for payment is registered against a company, that information remains for a maximum of two years after the end of the year in which the application was made.

What is a payment order?

The application for a payment order does not imply that you have received a payment notice. An order for payment will come if the application leads to a decision, that is, that the Swedish Enforcement Administration makes a decision that the application is correct. You can read more about the difference between application and ruling here. For companies, the payment note arises already at the time of application.

I have an invoice from you that I have not paid. Can I get a payment note?

It's credit reporting companies that provide payment notes, not us. Credit reporting companies collect public data from various registers, including from the Swedish Kronofogden.

What does it take to get a note classified?

The debt will automatically be marked as confidential at Kronofogden if the following conditions are met. Please note that it is not possible to apply for confidentiality.

  • That any previous debt was not recorded in the last two years
  • That you have paid the amount of the debt, including interest, any late payment and basic fee, or that the claim has been withdrawn by the creditor
  • That you will not receive any new debt for the following two years after a debt is declassified
Can I remove a payment note?

The payment note usually does not need to be left if you have ended up there by mistake. The mistake could be, for example, that you happened to pay incorrectly or that the person who sent in the debt should not have done so. It is a specific law that determines whether the data may be changed or perhaps deleted altogether. Normally, one cannot get rid of a payment note.

Can you start a business if you have a payment notice?

Yes, one can. But getting started can be harder, even if the company finances and the private economy are to be kept apart, it can be challenging.

Can you get a loan if you have a payment note?
